June 29, 2008: "Pink Spread", by Linn Smith of Seminole County, Florida. The evening sunset on Lake Jesup located in Seminole County, Florida produced a soft pink glow on a White Ibis as it spread its wings. Camera used: Canon EOS 5D with a Canon 100-400mm IS lens

June 15, 2008: Kathy Shogren of Assaria, Ks. took this photo June 9, 2008 of a wheel bug nymph, a member of the assassin family. Though not very big, this stage of the bug is quite easy to spot with their bright red coloring and the very unusual head shape. The adults are a grey to brown coloring. Caution should be taken in getting too close to these insects, as they can produce a very painful bite, resulting in numbness and weeks to months to heal. They are also cannibalistic in nature. Camera used was a Canon 30D, 100mm macro lens.

March 16, 2008: Portrait of an Amur leopard taken by Kathy Shogren on Jan. 6, 2008, at the Rolling Hills Zoo near Salina, Ks. The Amur is the rarest subspecies of leopard with an estimate of 24-35 still remaining in the wild. Camera used was a Canon 30D, with 70-300IS USM lens.

While traveling through Brandywine Valley in southeastern Pennsylvania, she saw this magnificent maple along the road and had to stop for a photo. December 16, 2007: "Snow Geese", by Dee Langevin; Townsend, DE. Each fall, snow geese migrate thousands of miles from their summer breeding grounds in the arctic tundra to the coastal areas of the Delmarva Peninsula. I found these clouds of geese at Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge along the Delaware River, resting after their long migration. Camera used was a Canon EOS 30D with a Canon EF 100-400mm IS Lens.

Snowy Egret often comb the shoreline of Lake Jesup located in Seminole County, Florida for food. Linn Smith was lucky to capture one of them right as it made its hit at the small fish breaking its reflection in the water.

Living near Lake Jesup located in Seminole County, Florida, she is often able to watch the various wildlife. On this particular occasion, she saw an Anhinga go in the water and come upright proudly displaying his catch as if it was a trophy.
August 12, 2007: "In Comparison", by Kathy Shogren. Many people confuse the dragonfly and damselfly. The dragonfly is on the left. Besides the vast size difference, the telltale sign of the damselfly is that when it lands, it folds it's wings up on it's back. The dragonfly is unable to do this. This was taken at a friend's garden pond in Assaria, KS using the Canon 30D, 70-300IS USM lens.

Other than cropping, she didn't enhance the photo at all .... the colors were so outrageous; this reminded her of a Van Gogh or Monet painting .... Mother Nature gets all the credit! Recently, she took a trip to Boca Grande on the west coast of Florida, which is on the Grand Barrier Island called Gasparilla. Pristine ocean water is a step back into the Old Florida. This pelican cruising softly in the Gulf Coast waters illustrates the serene natural beauty of the area.

March 4, 2007: Ruby Gold, Loudonville, New York sent in this photo. Two days after having 18 inches of snow, she saw two cross country skiers in an area not far from her home. Using her Canon A95 digital camera on program and opened up 1 1/2 stops to compensate for all the white snow, she adjusted the blue shadows in Photoshop and moved the skier in red for better composition.

She did not retouch it - that was the color of the sky that day!!! a polarizer was not used, but she set the photo effect on "vivid" which would be similar to using Velvia film.

While sitting on her front porch one evening, she noticed what appeared to be bumble bee in the lilac tree. Upon closer evaluation she realized it was a hummingbird moth. The moth is hard to find, however if you look closely at the cluster of green on the left, you will see it.

November 17, 2003: "Lunar Eclipse", by Dr. Ken Deitcher, of Albany, New York. On the night of Saturday November 8, 2003 there was a total lunar eclipse. Dr. Deitcher captured this celestial event with his Canon D60 camera and a 35-350mm lens. Multiple exposures were taken over the 35 hour event and cut and pasted into a single image in Photoshop.
November 10, 2003: "Poor Snowman", by Ken Deitcher, of Albany, New York. Photo was taken at a local playground shortly after a snowfall. The placement of the snow on the colorful bars of the playground gave a great interplay of shapes. Camera used was a Canon D30 with a 28-135 mm lens.

September 1: This is a picture of a 235 ft, 2500 ton, 10800 bhp supply ship, "Maersk Bonavista" taken Jan 17, 2002, towing the Semi - Submersible oil rig "Henry Goodrich" from the NE Glory Hole to the SW Glory Hole on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. The recorded winds that day exceeded 112 mph. The sea state was 15 to 20+ meters. Captain Jerry Conway of St John's N.L was the master of that trip. The picture was taken by Mr. Martin Payne p.eng. of St john's whom was working on the rig.
August 25: "Albany's Skyline" sent in by Harold Sokol of Albany, New York. Photo was taken out the window of his car. A 52mm, Spectrum 7 digital camera was used.

August 4: John Kotrofi of Rockwall, Texas, took this photo of the Heceta Head Lighthouse off the coast of Oregon while on vacation the summer of 2002. This is a working lighthouse. Its light can be seen 21 miles from land and is rated as the strongest light on the Oregon coast.

Picture was taken on Cape Breton Island as they were both leaving to go to work as lobster fishermen. Jack goes everywhere with John turning heads and stopping traffic.

March 3: Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, sent this picture of the Statue of Liberty. These images were taken over 10 years ago with a Canon T90 camera and a 70 to 210mm lens. The Liberty 'shot' was taken on a trip to Liberty Island, hand held. The fireworks display was taken at a July 4th fireworks display in Albany, NY, camera on a tripod, timed exposures of bursts. Images were combined after being scanned.
February 16: Kerry Woods from Plymouth Devon, UK, submitted this photo of her husband's ship, the HMS Ocean leaving for deployment in the Gulf. Standing on the Plymouth Hoe waving good bye to her husband (return date yet unknown) she took this photo using a Kodak DX4900.

February 3: Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York, submitted this picture with a 52mm, Spectrum 7 digital camera. It was at a medical conference at the Rye Town Hilton in New York. This is a picture of a light fixture in one of the conference rooms.
January 27: Wayne Lambright of San Francisco, CA, submitted this wonderful picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, taken while he was on his daily walk. A view like this would certainly motivate me to walk. Photo was taken with a 995 Nikon camera.
January 20: Nishant Vadgama of Hertfordshire, UK, submitted this picture. Photo was taken on a beach in Albufeira Portugal. While walking along the beach the sun seemed to disappear behind the clouds, leaving this beautiful, almost heavenly glow. It was taken with a 35mm Canon camera with Kodak ultra film.
January 13: Debra Wilson of Lancaster, California sent this picture of a cute little kitten named Lita next to a Honda Motorcycle. She was wandering around the yard, snapping pictures, trying to get a few cute ones. Camera is a Nikon Coolpix 990, digital, 3.34 mega pixels capability, no special equipment was used.
January 6: Sheila sent in this picture of the statue of Elvis that is displayed at the Visitor's Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Picture was taken with a Kodak 600 Platinum Poloroid on Aug.16, 2002 in Memphis. Tennessee, on Elvis` 25th Anniversary of his death. Elvis would have been 68 on January 8th.

December 2: Daffodil's in Blue Vase submitted by Ruby Gold, of Loudonville, NY. Taken with a Canon EOS Elan, a 28-105 lens with the actual vase reflected into Mylar. The background was a painting that was reflected into the Mylar as well. The slide was scanned into Picture Publisher 8 and a vignette blur was applied to the edges.

November 18: This photos were taken in Flathead, Montana in January by Peter Zama of Houston, Texas.
November 11: "Three White Tulips" by Ruby Gold. This photo was taken with a Canon EOS Elan camera, a Canon 26-105 lens, and Kodak E100S film. Photo was taking using a table set up near a window with a large white reflector on the opposite side. One of the tulips was left out of the water for a short while so it would bend down.
November 4: "Rescued Fox" by Ray Abbott. Mr. Abbott submitted a picture of one of his rescued foxes. She is unable to be released into the wild, due to the injuries she received after being hit by a car.
October 28: "Fall Composition" by Gerry Mewton of Marblehead Mass. Composition of fall leaves and horse chestnuts, taken while playing around and using his new Nikon Coolpix 885 Digital camera.
October 21: "Yosemite National Park" by Sarah Murray. While on a school field trip, Sarah took this wonderful picture. Olympus camera was used with Kodak film.
October 14: "Out for an Autumn Stroll" by Joan Soles, Pine City, MN. While on a pontoon ride up the river by her home, this Great Blue Heron was walking near some colorful foliage. Camera used was a Sony Mavica FD97, circular polarizer.
October 7: Tara Forsyth, of Show Low, Arizona, sent this picture of the Rodeo-Chedeski fire sweeping through the White Mountain Ponderosa Pine Forest of Arizona. The picture was taken from her neighborhood about two miles away. Photo was taken with a MX-1200 Fujifilm digital camera.
October 2: Susan, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sent this picture of the back side of an Oklahoma wall cloud that produced a tornado on the front side of the cloud. The picture was taken in the country just west of Oklahoma City. Camera was a Canon Sure Shot, 85 zoom.
September 23: "Honor Guard", Submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. MIA honor guard at a St. Patrick's Day parade this year. Taken with a Canon EOS D30 and a 28-135mm lens. Lens was zoomed during exposure. Exposure 1/10 sec at f22.
September 16: "Sunrise" This photo was submitted anonymously. Picture was taken with a Kodak DX3900 all setting on auto.
September 9: "Fallen But Not Forgotten!" This wonderful photo of the first tower referred to as One World Trade Center was submitted by Shelia from Weehawken, New Jersey. The first tower opened in 1970, though work on some of the higher floors wasn't completed until 1972. The second tower was being built and was completed in April 1973. As the image reveals, the World Trade Center was built once before, and it can be built again. Picture was taken with a Bentley BX-3 Optical Lens.

August 12: "Reflection" was submitted by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York. While shooting pictures in downtown Albany she saw this interesting shot of buildings reflecting in another. Photo was taken with a 52mm, Spectrum 7 digital camera.
August 5: "Ascent At Dusk" by Larry Kelly of San Diego, California was made with a Pentax PZ-1 camera using a Pentax 100-300 zoom lens. The location was along the coast just north of San Diego in the city of Del Mar, Calif. The balloons used a special fuel mixture that illuminated the interior to give them that definitive glow against the sunset.
July 31: "Loggerheadlight" was submitted by Giancarlo Fruzzetti of Jacksonville, FL.
Photo is of Loggerhead Key light through one of the uncompleted gun placements at Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, Florida, taken in December 2001. Camera was a 35mm Pentax.
July 22: "Victory" submitted by Larry Kelly of San Diego, California was made with a Canon A-1 camera using a Soligor 28-90 mm zoom lens for both images and then combined using Photoshop. The Iwo Jima memorial in West Virginia was photographed on a trip east two years ago and the fireworks image was made last summer during the 4th. of July show at Sea World in San Diego.
July 15: John Mathews of Harrogate, Tennessee submitted this photo of his wife Val. Equipment used was an Olympus c2100 uz (digital), Photoshop 6 for adjustments and frame.
July 8: "Sanibel Island" was photographed last January in Sanibel Island, Florida by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, NY. Photo was taken with a Canon EOS D30 digital camera and a 28-135mm lens. It is a composite of four photographs taken in different areas at different times. The sunset and the fisherman were taken on the causeway leading to Sanibel, the beach taken at Captiva Island and the gulls taken on the beach near his hotel. All images were combined using Picture Publisher.
June 24: "Double Arch" was photographed last Spring in Arches National Park by Larry Kelly of San Diego, California. The balloons were added with Photoshop and the clouds, which were in the original photo, were skewed with the Twirl filter.

May 13: "The Professional Ballerina" was taken by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York, with a 52mm Spectrum 7 digital camera. This photo is of my iguana, Iggy, in her ballet uniform. She is at the bar and is ready to begin dancing. She appears to be enjoying herself!
May 6: "San Francisco" was taken by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, with a Canon A1 camera and a 28-70mm lens. As Dr. Deitcher explains, "I particularly wanted a photo of the old Victorian houses of San Francisco known as 'Motif No. 2'. The first Motif is the harbor in Rockport, MA. A relative drove me to the spot for 10 minutes of photography, and it cost me a dinner at an expensive restaurant. The original slide was taken on Fujichrome film and scanned into my computer. The solarized effect was created in Photoshop and the sun added graphically."
April 29: Photo was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, NY as The Olympic Flame reached Albany in December 2001. A large crowd of about 300 people greeted the runners. Speeches and performances were performed by the Park Players. A huge video screen was set-up to show the
festivities. The image was taken with a Canon EOS D30 camera and a 28-135mm lens.

April 1: "The Twin Bridges" was submitted by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York. She was photographing these bridges and discovered this interesting angle, using a 52mm, Spectrum 7 digital camera.
March 25: This photo was submitted by Bob Snyder from Winston-Salem, NC. This photo is of a Chinese Windmill Palm and was taken in his backyard after a snowfall. It's unusual to see snow-covered palms, so he went out and snapped this when the snow had stopped falling. Picture was taken with a Kodak DC4800 digital camera.
March 18: This photo was submitted by Larry Kelly of San Diego, California. The original transparency was shot at a bicycle race at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. He then brought it into Photoshop and applied the Wind filter to give the image motion and the Neon filter to enhance the colors. The background blur was created by panning the camera in the original shot.
March 11: This photo was taken by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York at a Magic Wings butterfly zoo. She used a Mavica FD 91 digital camera.
March 4: This photo of rowboats was taken by Ruby Gold of Loudonville, New York. The rowboats were taken at sunset at Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, Maine the first week of September.
February 25: "The Ancient Mariner" is a sandwich of two slides. The Mariner is an image of a statue in a harbor in Massachusetts taken with a Canon A1 camera and a standard 50mm lens. The image was enlarged in Photoshop so that it would have a dominant position in the sky and then reduced the opacity to give it a ghostlike appearance. It was then combined with a slide of the Hale-Bopp Comet to produce the resultant image.
February 18: Country Garden was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. The image was taken as four separate images with a Canon D30 camera and stitched together to create a panorama. A 28-135 mm lens was used. The butterfly was photographed at Wild Wings Butterfly Zoo, Deerfield, Massachusetts, then pasted into position to give a point of interest and focus to the photo.
February 11: This photo was submitted by Larry Kelly of San Diego, California. Image was taken at a shopping mall window in San Diego with a Canon A1 camera and a 50mm lens using Fuji Tungsten slide film 400 ASA. The original image was a little static so he chose one of the small hearts and created a crossed design using the Gradient tool and tilted it for effect.
February 4: This photo was submitted by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York, and is of his younger sister and her pet iguana, Zelda interacting with each other. Notice how Zelda the iguana is looking right at his sister. A 52 mm MVC-FD92 digital camera was used.

January 7, 2002: "Family of Frogs" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. This is an image of three tree frogs on a limb taken ten years ago. Camera used was a Canon T90 with a 100mm macro lens. The subjects were illuminated by 2 strobes (exposure f 8 at 1/60 sec).
December 24: Jane Riley of Amsterdam, New York, submitted this photo entitled "The Scene is Set." The scene is of Jane's living room in the days before Christmas. A Nikon N90 camera was used with a 35-135 lens on a tripod at a slow shutter speed. Fuji 400 film was used. Happy Holidays!

December 10: "Top of the Stretch" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. The photograph was taken at a track in Saratoga, New York, with a Canon EOS D30 digital camera and a 28-135mm lens.
December 3: "Olympic Gymnast" was photographed by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, using a Canon T90 camera and a 100mm macro lens on a tripod. The Giant Tree Frog was placed on a hanging support and photographed at an angle, to give the illusion of swinging.
November 19: Larry Kelly of San Diego, California, used the "sandwich" technique to make this image, entitled "Lest We Forget." The Iwo Jima Memorial was photographed in West Virginia using a Canon A-1 camera and a 50mm Canon lens. The cemetery is the U.S. Military Cemetery in Luxembourg, the burial site of Gen. George S. Patton. The camera was the same using a 28mm wide-angle setting on a zoom lens. After the sandwich was complete, an underexposed copy of the image was made to create a somber mood.
November 12: "Make Mine a Double" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. The humorous photo was taken with a Canon A1 camera and a 100mm lens on Fujichrome Sensia film. The toad was released after the photo was taken in a studio using two strobes and umbrellas. Exposure was f5.6 at 1/60 sec.
November 5: Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, submitted this photo, entitled "The Collection." The butterfly collection was assembled and created in Picture Publisher. The individual butterflies and moths were scanned using a flatbed scanner. The images were placed into position and framed, and drop shadows were used to create depth.
October 29: "Americana" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York. The photo was taken in a rural community a short distance from Albany, just after the Fourth of July. A Canon D30 digital camera with a 28-135 lens was used. Exposure was set at f8; the camera was set at ISO 100.
October 15: "Spacescape" was photographed in Shiprock, New Mexico. Larry Kelly of San Diego, California, submitted this photo, explaining that the eerie landscape gave him the idea of trying various color filters, such as the red filter used in this image. The result was manipulated in Photoshop, blackening the sky and adding the celestial bodies in the background. A Pentax PZ-1 camera with a 28-105 zoom lens and Fuji Velvia film was used.
October 8: "Vortex" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, and is a photograph taken in Disney World over ten years ago at the Kodak Pavillion, with a 50mm lens. The two subjects were photographed with a 500mm lens about 15 years ago at a beach in the Caribbean. Finally, the two images were combined using Picture Publisher. A Canon A1 camera was used for both images.

September 24: "Tearful Liberty" is a second submission by Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, commemorating the victims of the September 11 attacks. The Statue of Liberty was photographed over ten years ago with a Canon A1 camera and a 70-210mm lens. The ribbon was scanned on a flatbed scanner, and the tear was created using Kai's Tools.
September 17: "Drummer Boy" was submitted by Dr. Ken Deitcher and depicts a boy waiting for a march to begin at a Civil War Encampment in Loudonville, New York, at the Pryn House. The flag was photographed at the same location. A Canon D30 digital camera with a 28-135mm lens was used, and the two images were combined using Photoshop software. This photo was selected for this week to commemorate all those in the world affected by last week's terrorist attacks in the United States.
September 10: "Broken Lobster Cages" was submitted by Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York. The picture is an odd assortment of lobster cages and other objects photographed at Mystic Seaport, where Rebekah was vacationing.
September 3: Rebekah Sokol of Albany, New York, submitted this photo, entitled "Partially Submerged Frog." The picture was taken at Hollyhock Hollow, a nature preserve near Rebekah's house.
August 20: Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, submitted this portrait of his granddaughter Drue, who is actually seen twice in the above photo. Ken used the computer application Picture Publisher to cut and paste an image of Drue in a dance pose to replace a porcelain ballerina doll that Drue was holding in a second photograph taken of her. A Canon EOS D30 with a 28-70mm lens was used.
August 13: Dr. Ken Deitcher of Albany, New York, submitted this week's photo, which is of the underside of a red poppy flower, taken shortly after a rain. A Canon E0S D30 digital camera and a 100mm macro lens were used, along with a Canon ringflash. The highlighted star reflection was digitally applied using Picture Publisher software.
August 6: John Keefe of Troy, New York, submitted this photo, entitled "Summer Fun," which he captured while walking through a local park on a summer evening. As John explains, "The two children were running through the water spray, providing a wonderful composition with the strong backlight."
July 30: Larry Kelly of San Diego, California, submitted this photo, which he calls "One Man Airshow." As Larry explains the capture of this photo, "'One Man Airshow' is a sandwich of two transparencies. The lighthouse was photographed on the coast of Maine, and the diving airplanes (Canadian S
